Final Score: Mermigans 22 – 10 Cern Wildcats
The Mermigans marked their first home game of the season at Colovray in style, with a strong 22–10 win over the Cern Wildcats. The day began in a sea of pink as the club proudly supported October Rose, raising awareness for breast cancer. As someone who has worked in radiotherapy for 36 years, it was heartwarming to see the stands filled with such enthusiastic support for the cause.
It was also team photo day, and in true Mermigans spirit, the squad delivered not just the traditional team shot but also a brilliantly comical pose — setting the bar high for the rest of the season!
On the field, the Mermigans started well, with Louise back in the lineup and showing excellent form with the boot. Her kicking kept the scoreboard ticking and saw the home side leading 9–5 at halftime. Early in the second half, another well-taken penalty extended the lead to 12–5 before the Wildcats struck back with a try out wide, closing the gap to 12–10.
The Mermigans, however, responded with determination. Their hard running and sustained pressure finally broke the Wildcats’ defence, resulting in two well-earned tries to seal the victory at 22–10.
A strong start at home, a meaningful celebration for October Rose, and a great team performance.
