Sunday saw more rugby this weekend with 3 games at Colovray.
Nyon vs Riviera/Yverdon at both U16 and U19 whilst The Mermigans played Cern Wildcats in the second league game of their season, image links below.
With the U16s having some familiar faces from last year it was good to see the progression from Terre Sainte Rugby and Rugby La Cote represented now at U16 level under the Nyon Rugby Club Umbrella. This photographer also enjoyed what appeared to be a larger front row in the opposition flying high in the first scrum!
The WildCats are always great opponents in LNAF and a hard team to crack as they are good over the ball so the breakdown is an area that required attention.
As of the photographer Sunday was a marathon of rugby and followed by football the wind was a welcome change from the previous week’s full sun.
Todays rugby at junior level was one way traffic with two large scores against opposition that never gave up.
It did though raise a few questions in the crowd?
Should the game be stopped early when the score reaches a certain point? I know last year in the LNA this was done in the Yervdon vs Avusy game when they reached 60 points and both sides agreed it was not productive to continue. However this also has a negative point for these younger players as they don’t get to play a full game if it’s stopped early.
The idea I heard which I have seen played a few times is that you sub off your best players and even swap the forward and backs of both sides. This way mixing the teams up makes it more of a training match and everyone benefits from the exposure to more rugby. Of course the winners have to be declared for league purposes.
Its a win, win around for rugby. Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts?
