So the weekend was a busy one for this photographer with 9 games being hosted on the Swiss finals day in Yverdon, was I ready, yes. Was it possible to be in 2 places at one time, no. However thanks to the head of the Swiss Federation Media Team we had a second photographer and supporter of Basel RFC, Mike Rothenburger. 9 games became 6 which was much more manageable to achieve game images as well as winning team and MVP post match.
The final 2 games of the day were Dangels vs Mermigans (LNFA) and Yverdon vs Nyon RC (LNA), which are the top Rugby leagues in Switzerland. Fingers were definitely crossed with both Mermigans and Nyon fly home teams.
My heart was broken after the first 80 minutes in the women’s game despite them having possibilities to win they finally lost to Dangels (20-15). They have competed in the last 4 finals with 1 Win and 3 losses I have seen them all and felt their pain today. They will be back next year and I will be there for them and the final!
On to the mens final. It was a nail biter and both the local team Yverdon and Nyon had great support in the crowd. At half time Nyon were down but by only 3 points. However an intercept on the half way soon saw them fall further behind with a try under the posts. That never stopped them and back they came until with 5 minutes left with Yverdon 22 Nyon 20. A kickable penalty was awarded to Nyon to take the lead and 3 minutes later the Swiss Rugby Championship for a 6th time in its history.
